Twelve public schools in Iloilo City are expected to be powered by solar energy this year.

Among the beneficiaries of the city government’s solar power project, seven schools have already completed their solar setups.

These schools include, among others, Rizal Elementary School, Iloilo City National High School, and Jaro National High School.

Their grid-tied solar power systems range from 5 per kilowatt-hour (kWh) to 75 kWh depending on their power needs.

Some, like Rizal Elementary School and Jaro National High, are now connected to MORE Power’s net-metering program, which enables consumers to earn credits for any excess energy they send back to the grid.

Currently, there are five schools, including Iloilo Central Elementary School and Calaparan Elementary School, waiting for the release of the Notice to Proceed (NTP).

The solar power project is part of the efforts to position Iloilo City as a model Green City.

“It’s a move that not only benefits the environment but also teaches students the value of sustainability and innovation,” said Mayor Jerry Trenas.IMT
