A magnitude 4.8 earthquake shook Iloilo on Monday evening, March 2, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS).
The tectonic quake, which struck around 6:13 p.m. at a depth of 11 kilometers, was downgraded by PHIVOLCS from a magnitude of 5.0.
The agency also changed the quake’s epicenter location to five kilometers southwest of Guimbal town from two kilometers southeast of Tigbauan town.
Intensity IV was felt in Iloilo City, Intensity III in San Remegio, Antique; Intensity II in San Jose de Buenavista, Antique, and Libacao and Madalag, Aklan; and Intensity I in Roxas City, Capiz.
Meanwhile, Instrumental Intensity IV was recorded in Jordan, Guimaras and Iloilo City, and Intensity III in Valderrama, and Culasi, Antique; Nueva Valencia, Guimaras, and Passi City, Iloilo.
Instrumental Intensity II was recorded in Malinao, Aklan; Tapaz, Capiz; San Lorenzo, Guimaras; La Carlota, Sipalay, Bacolod, Negros Occidental; San Jose De Buenavista, Antique, and Intensity I in Ibajay and Malay, Aklan; Anini’y, Antique; and Jamindan, Capiz.
PHIVOLCS explained that the intensities were based on the shaking felt by people, while the instrumental intensities were based on the ground motion detected by an accelerometer.
No major damage to infrastructure or injuries were reported after the quake.IMT
