Four towns in the province of Iloilo have recorded an increase in cases of dengue, data from the Provincial Health Office (PHO) showed.

Carles logged the highest rise at 63 percent. It recorded 160 dengue cases from January 1 to December 6, 2025.

The total number, including two deaths, was higher compared to 98 cases registered in the same period last year.

San Rafael came in second with a 26 percent  increase (from 54, including 1 death, to 68) followed by San Joaquin with 19 percent (from 224 to 266), and Concepcion with 10 percent (from 138, including 2 deaths, to 152).

All in all, the province recorded 5,710 dengue cases (including 21 deaths), lower by 51 percent compared to 2024’s 11, 663 with 35 deaths.

Dengue, which mainly affects children, is transmitted through the bite of an Aedes mosquito, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).

The disease’s symptoms include sudden onset of fever for two to seven days and at least two of the following: headache, body weakness, joint and muscle pains, pain behind the eyes, loss of appetite, vomiting, diarrhea and skin rashes.IMT
