Five of the eight confirmed cases of mpox in Iloilo City have “fully recovered” from the viral disease, according to the City Health Office (CHO).

CHO, as of June 20, has recorded 13 mpox cases, of which eight are laboratory-confirmed and five are tagged as suspected.

“We are waiting for five results from the RITM (Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM),” said Dr. Roland Jay Fortuna, city assistant health officer.

Mpox is a “viral infection that spreads through close contact.” Its symptoms include fever, intense headaches, muscle aches, back pain, low energy, swollen lymph nodes, and characteristic skin rashes.

Fortuna appealed to the public to immediately visit the city’s health centers if they develop rashes for specimen extraction.
