The second Trillion Peso March in Western Visayas on Sunday, Nov. 30, concluded “peacefully,” according to the Police Regional Office (PRO-6).
An estimated 3,130 people joined the anti-corruption rallies in Iloilo City; Roxas City, Capiz; Kalibo, Aklan; and San Jose, Antique.
The participants — students, workers, church people, and membersvof civil society organizations — called for transparency, accountability, and good governance amid allegations of widespread corruption in government’s infrastructure projects.
PRO-6 regional director Police Brigadier General Josefino Ligan attributed the “calm” and “incident-free” rallies to the “effective coordination among rally organizers, local government units, and law enforcement agencies.”
“Today’s peaceful mobilization is a testament to what we can achieve when citizens and law enforcement work together with mutual respect,” he said.
“I commend the peaceful conduct of the activities, where participants responsibly exercised their constitutional right to assemble. I also commend the dedicated men and women of PRO-6, together with our force multipliers, for their professionalism and commitment to ensuring safety and order,” Ligan added. IMT
