The Department of Transportation (DOTr) has reaffirmed its commitment to fast-tracking the completion of key infrastructure projects in Antique, particularly the much-anticipated opening of Antique Airport.
Following the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr, to ensure the government projects are done promptly with efficiency, DOTr Secretary Vivencio Dizon recently visited Antique Airport.
In a press conference held on site, Dizon emphasized the importance of infrastructure projects like airports and seaports in driving regional development.
He expressed gratitude for the warm reception of the Antiqueños and thanked Senator Loren Legarda for her all-out support to this project, highlighting the national government’s strong push to complete the said vital infrastructure.
He emphasized that the project would not have been possible without Legarda’s relentless efforts and commitment to the province’s development.
Dizon shared the project’s timeline, noting that work has been ongoing since 2016 with anticipation that the airport terminal will be ready for public use by mid-July 2025.
In addition, he said that the government is committed to expanding the airport’s runway from its current 1.5 kilometers to 1.8 kilometers, making it capable of accommodating jet aircraft.
With P1.7 billion already invested in the project, Dizon assured that additional funding has been secured for further development in 2025 and 2026.
These expansions are expected to significantly boost Antique’s air travel capacity.
On her part, Senator Loren Legarda acknowledged the DOTr’s efforts in pushing the project forward.
Likewise, she noted that DOTr is also conducting an ocular inspection of Antique’s ports, with more infrastructure projects planned, especially in the northern areas of the province.
Legarda reiterated her full support for the approval of the General Appropriations Act (GAA) which provides for funding of different projects in the province.
With the completion of this vital transport infrastructure, Legarda noted that Antique is set to experience significant growth in connectivity and economic development.AGP/PSM/PIA-Antique with reports from MPO/DOLE intern
