Senator Bam Aquino hailed the Iloilo Provincial Government under Governor Arthur Defensor Jr. for its flagship programs and sweeping reforms aimed at transforming the province’s education system.
During a recent visit to Iloilo in July, Aquino—chair of the Senate Committee on Basic Education—was briefed on Defensor’s education reform agenda, anchored by the BESProbins (Bulig Eskwela sang Probinsya) Program.
The program seeks to provide an effective, relevant, and transformative learning environment for the province’s learners.
Defensor also showcased key infrastructure investments that reinforce the reforms, including Teen Centers, Madrasah facilities, and School of Living Tradition hubs, all designed to promote holistic youth development and preserve local culture.
Board Member Jason Gonzales presented data on the reforms’ impact, noting significant gains in reading proficiency through the BESBasa program and the Proof of Concept (POC) Initiative—projects that have helped learners strengthen foundational skills.
Aquino lauded the province’s comprehensive approach, pledging his continued support for its education agenda. Apart from his Senate role, Aquino is a board member of the Kaya Natin! Movement for Good Governance and Ethical Leadership, with both Defensor and Gonzales recognized as Kaya Natin! Champions for their exemplary work in public service.
“These efforts in Iloilo show that with the right vision, collaboration, and investment, we can create a future where no child is left behind in education,” Aquino said.IMT
