A first-of-its-kind outdoor sports facility featuring a striking glasshouse design and integrated retail hubs is set to rise inside Megaworld’s The Upper East township, further supporting Bacolod City’s push to become the sports capital of the Negros Island Region (NIR).
Opening in 2026, The Yard will feature a 3,290-square meter multi-purpose sports and recreational space that can be configured into a full-size basketball, volleyball, or pickleball court, or converted into an open athletic area for training sessions, outdoor workouts, and other community activities.
The facility will also feature fenced perimeters and sheltered bleachers for spectators, making it a suitable venue for sports events, tournaments, and other large-scale gatherings.
Surrounding the main court will be four modern glasshouses with curved rooflines that will house a curated mix of dining establishments, food and beverage outlets, as well as retail shops offering fitness merchandise and other lifestyle products.
The glasshouses will be linked to the court and other amenities through shaded walkways, with ample parking spaces and open pedestrian pathways providing convenient access around the site.
“We believe wellness should be accessible, enjoyable, and part of daily life. Our goal is to create a space where people feel motivated to move, inspired to connect, and empowered to improve their well-being. We chose The Upper East for its wide-open spaces and welcoming ambience—an environment that reflects the calm, discipline, and thoughtful planning we value,” said Marnelli Gemarino, owner of The Yard.
The new sports facility is also poised to bolster the city’s push to expand its sports tourism program, a key development priority of the Bacolod city government. Mayor Greg Gasataya earlier said the city’s bid to become a major sports tourism hub continues to gain momentum with the opening of new venues capable of hosting large-scale athletic events. Developments like The Yard further reinforce this vision by providing modern, community-driven spaces that can support a wider range of sports and recreational activities.
“We are proud to welcome another innovative destination for our fellow Bacolodnons and neighboring communities. This is one of many developments coming to our township as we continue to elevate our offerings and support Bacolod’s growth as a premier business hub—and now, a sports tourism hotbed,” added Christine Yusingco, general manager – Bacolod, Megaworld Lifestyle Malls.
The Upper East is Megaworld’s 34-hectare master-planned township built on the former site of the Bacolod-Murcia Milling Company. It is home to upscale residential condominium towers, such as One Regis, Two Regis, and One Manhattan, as well as modern office developments including No. 1 Upper East Avenue. The township has also become one of the city’s emerging retail, lifestyle, and tourism hubs, housing attractions such as the country’s most beautiful McDonald’s, the Philippines’ biggest Landers Superstore, the iconic The Upper East House, a vibrant mix of dining and retail stores, and soon the 300-room The Kingsford, Megaworld’s first hotel development in Bacolod City.
