Senator Bam Aquino vowed to continue the investigation into the alleged anomalous flood control projects worth billions of pesos, stressing that those responsible must be held accountable and that misused public funds must be recovered.
Aquino said public anger over the issue remains strong, citing appeals from ordinary citizens and teachers who urged him to pursue the probe.
“Alam mong galit ang tao… The best Christmas gift for people is may mga cases na mapa-file at may makukulong,” he said.
He called on the government to act on the evidence presented and file cases against those involved, adding that reforms must be implemented to prevent similar corruption in the future.
Aquino proposed measures such as live-streaming budget deliberations and posting documents online for transparency.
He also pushed for his proposed Philippine National Budget Blockchain Act (Senate Bill No. 1330), which would require government agencies to publish all budget documents, contracts, and materials on a blockchain-based system.
Failure to post required information within the prescribed period would carry administrative or even criminal penalties.
“Kapag naipasa iyon, mapo-force ang government agencies to put out their documents… Kahit iyong presyo ng semento alam ng tao… Mabigat iyong penalties dito for not posting,” he added.IMT
