President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. announced that the nine Filipino seafarers held by Houthi forces in Yemen since July have been rescued and are now on their way home, calling it a good news, just in time for Christmas.
The seafarers, captured after the MV Eternity C sank in the Red Sea, were turned over to Philippine officials in Oman on Wednesday and cleared for immediate repatriation.
Marcos Jr. thanked the Department of Migrant Workers, Department of Foreign Affairs, and the Philippine Embassy in Oman, as well as the Omani government and Sultan Haitham bin Tariq for their crucial assistance.
He said the rescued crew received orientation and document processing in Oman before being sent home.
The President also extended condolences to the family of Filipino seafarer Neil Roy Faner, who died during the attack.
He stressed that Filipino mariners often face dangerous conditions in high-risk areas, making it vital for the government to act swiftly to protect them.IMT
