President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has appointed three new officials and retained three Cabinet members as part of an ongoing performance review of senior officials in the executive branch.
Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin announced on Thursday, May 29, the appointment of Darlene Marie Berberabe as Solicitor General, replacing Menardo Guevarra; Police Maj. Gen. Nicolas Torre III as Chief of the Philippine National Police, replacing Gen. Rommel Marbil; and Jose Ramon Aliling as Secretary of the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development.
CHED Commissioner Shirley Agrupis was also named CHED chairperson, replacing Prospero De Vera III.
On one hand, Marcos Jr. retained National Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro, Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla, and Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla.
At a Palace briefing, Bersamin said the performance review goes beyond Cabinet officials.
“The President has been clear from the beginning. We are not just looking at the top levels. We are going deeper into the agencies, into the systems and into the quality of public service being delivered on the ground,” Bersamin said in a press briefing in Malacañang.
“The people expect results and the President has no patience for underperformance,” he added.IMT
