President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has ordered the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to blacklist contractors behind defective or anomalous flood control projects and bar them from future government contracts.
Marcos Jr., dismayed that billions have been spent on projects that failed to ease flooding, said those responsible for negligence, corruption, or substandard work must face legal consequences.
He also directed the DPWH to identify officials who hired these contractors despite their poor record and require them to explain.
“Hindi puwede na tapos lang sa papel ang mga flood control projects na kung maitayo man ay sira din agad at wala nang silbi. Hindi rin puwedeng mababang klase ang proyekto para sa taumbayan,” Palace Press Officer Claire Castro quoted the President as saying.
The directive came after Marcos Jr. inspected flood-hit areas in Iloilo City on Wednesday, Aug. 13.
The public is urged to report anomalous projects through sumbongsapangulo.ph, which from August 11–13 logged 84,892 views, 1,148 reports, and 823 feedback entries.IMT
