President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has ordered a salary hike for all military and uniformed personnel (MUP), citing the dangers they face in disaster response and security operations.

In a video message, Marcos Jr. said soldiers, police, and other uniformed services have been the nation’s “strong support” amid recent typhoons, earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, and floods.

The adjustment will cover MUP under the Department of National Defense, Department of Interior and Local Government, Philippine Coast Guard, Bureau of Corrections, and the National Mapping and Resource Information Authority, and will be implemented in three tranches starting Jan. 1 of 2026, 2027, and 2028.

The President also set the subsistence allowance at P350 per day beginning Jan. 1, 2026.

He said MUP personnel consistently respond to duty despite threats to their safety, whether on land, at sea, or in the air. The government, he added, must protect those who protect the nation by ensuring fair pay and adequate support.IMT
