President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. vowed stronger government support for skills training to sustain growth in the shipbuilding sector, as he led the inauguration of the HD Hyundai Shipyard in Subic, Zambales.
Marcos Jr. said workforce development is key to the industry’s long-term success. He cited TESDA’s partnership with Hyundai, which opened an off-campus training center in Subic last year. Its first 24 graduates in Flux-Cored Arc Welding NC I are now employed at the shipyard.
To expand capacity, TESDA has granted 25 scholarships in Shielded Metal Arc Welding NC I and 100 more in Flux-Cored Arc Welding NC. The President also noted that there are now 16 training programs covering disciplines from marine electricity to welding, aligned with global shipyard standards.
This partnership proves the country’s commitment to building industries alongside a skilled and globally competitive Filipino workforce, he emphasized.IMT
