President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has expressed shock that a standard procedure meant to prevent corruption in government infrastructure projects was removed during the previous administration.
In the latest BBM Podcast, Marcos Jr. recalled that as Ilocos Norte governor, local officials inspected national government projects before signing off, ensuring quality and holding contractors accountable.
“‘Pag nakita namin hindi maganda ito, hindi tama itong ginawa ninyo, hindi ko pipirmahan ‘yung acceptance,” he said.
The President noted that this safeguard was apparently removed in the last administration. “I was shocked because this is the standard procedure, this is like – you don’t think about this anymore,” according to him.
Marcos Jr. also highlighted the potential of new technologies to improve transparency in government projects, citing blockchain as a promising tool, though he has yet to see AI specifically geared for this purpose.IMT
