President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has vowed to dismantle systemic corruption in the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), saying decades of abuses can no longer continue.
Speaking at a media forum in Phnom Penh after his state visit to Cambodia on Tuesday, Marcos Jr. said irregular practices in the agency have persisted since 2003 because laws were not properly enforced.
“The shocking part of this is that it became normalized,” the President said.
“Pumayag naman ‘yung mga iba. Eh ako hindi ako papayag,” he added.
According to Marcos Jr., an independent commission will be formed to probe anomalies in flood control projects and expose how corruption became institutionalized in the DPWH.
“That’s what we are going to have to investigate. And we have to — buwagin natin ang sistemang ‘yan. They cannot be allowed continuity,” he said.IMT
