More than 1,400 boarding houses in Iloilo City were found to be operating without permits following inspections conducted by the city government.
The Iloilo City Boarding House Commission (ICBHC) inspected a total of 3,320 boarding houses, nearly half or 1,405 of them failed to present necessary permits.
“Kalabanan sa ila wala permits. Permit sa zoning, sa fire, sa OBO (Office of the Building Official), building permits. Ang mga ini ginasiling namon sa ila nga requirements sa pag-operate,” ICBHC chairman Rammy Guintibano said in an interview with One Western Visayas.
Most of the boarding houses operating without permits are in Jaro district with 363, followed by Mandurriao with 264, and La Paz with 220.
As of October this year, ICBHC issued Notices of Violation to operators of at least 1,066 boarding houses. Of the number, 598 filed an appeal and 108 were ordered closed.
Guintibano advised students and workers to choose only boarding houses accredited by ICBHC to ensure their safety.IMT
