A bill that seeks to extend the term of elected barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) officials is only a signature away from becoming a law.

The proposed measure has already been ratified by the Senate and the House of Representatives is now awaiting the signature of President Bongbong Marcos.

Once enacted into law, the term of barangay and SK officials will be extended to four years from the current three years.

It will also reset the next barangay and SK elections from December this year to November 2026, and four years thereafter

Senate President Francis Escudero is confident that Marcos will sign the reconciled measure, “An Act Setting the Term of Office of Barangay Officials and Members of the Sangguniang Kabataan, and for other purposes.”IMT
