President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has accepted the resignation of Public Works Secretary Manuel Bonoan effective Sept. 1, Malacañang announced Sunday, Aug. 31.

In his letter, Bonoan expressed support for the administration’s push for accountability and reform amid probes into alleged anomalies in flood control projects. A day earlier, however, he released a video message saying resignation “is not the right way” to address corruption and vowed to accept accountability.

Marcos named Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon as the new DPWH chief, directing him to conduct a full organizational review and safeguard public funds for infrastructure that benefits Filipinos.

Lawyer Giovanni Lopez, currently undersecretary for administration, finance, and procurement, was designated acting transport secretary to ensure continuity in modernization programs.

The President also ordered the creation of an independent body to investigate flood control irregularities.

“These decisions reflect the administration’s firm resolve to clean up corruption, strengthen institutions, and deliver honest and effective public service under Bagong Pilipinas,” the Palace said.IMT
