Cases have been filed against individuals who figured in three indiscriminate firing incidents in Western Visayas during the holiday season.
“Three cases of indiscriminate firing were noted, and appropriate complaints have been filed against those responsible,” Police Regional Office (PRO-6) Director Brig. Gen. Josefino Ligan said during the regular flag-raising ceremony at the regional headquarters in Iloilo City.
The incidents involved a police officer in Estancia and two civilians in Pavia and Sta. Barbara, all were arrested.
The willful and indiscriminate discharge of a firearm carries a penalty of up to six months imprisonment, cancellation of license or permit, and perpetual disqualification from being granted any firearm license or permit.
Meanwhile, Ligan said there were no major incidents recorded in the region, a feat he attributed to the collective efforts of partner agencies, local government units, force multipliers, and law enforcement agencies.
He also took pride in the almost 70 percent reduction in firecracker-related incidents, with 70 cases recorded from Dec. 16 until 6 a.m. on Monday.
“These results highlight the discipline, vigilance and strong partnership between the law enforcement and the community in keeping our region safe. This achievement reflects not only your professionalism, but also your dedication, love for duty, and genuine concern for the people we serve,” he said.
Meanwhile, Civil Service Commission Acting Director III Andre Ladigohon emphasized that the Philippine National Police “exists to serve and to protect not in words, not on banners, but in the actual experiences of people,” including in barangays, complaint desks, stations, and the streets.
In line with the 32nd PNP Ethics Day celebration, he said the CSC is a PNP ally in strengthening ethical leadership, professional discipline and responsive public service.
“This partnership is not symbolic, it is operational, sustained, and deeply committed to the success of the PNP,” he said in his message.
The celebration was highlighted with the awarding of the Medalya ng Papuri to select police officers, including Major Roi Robin Rubina, M/Sgt. Glenn Ermina, M/Sgt. Robert Constantino, S/Sgt. Renante Siaotong, S/Sgt Jose Bade Jr., M/Sgt. Edmond Olid and S/Sgt. Sheryl Santillan.PNA
