Senate Minority Leader Alan Peter Cayetano expressed support for a bill that would bar relatives of government officials from entering into state contracts to prevent corruption and conflicts of interest.

The measure seeks to disqualify relatives within the fourth civil degree from participating in government deals, including supplies, services, infrastructure projects, joint ventures, and public-private partnerships.

“In government, you have to promote what is good and prevent what is evil,” said Cayetano.

The ban would also cover cases where relatives serve as beneficial owners, corporate officers, or board members of companies involved in government contracts, with limited exceptions for highly technical or proprietary projects.

“We need radical change. We need transformation. It wont happen unless may tamang direction at malinaw na proseso,” the senator added.IMT
