Senate Minority Leader Alan Peter Cayetano has welcomed the move allowing PhilHealth members to use vacant pay ward beds in government hospitals without extra charges when basic wards are full.
“Sometimes the problem is not the absence of a new policy, but the failure to use what is already allowed,” Cayetano said, noting he had raised the issue during Senate budget talks with Health Secretary Teodoro Herbosa.
Herbosa earlier said patients may be placed in vacant pay wards during congestion, depending on hospital policy.
Cayetano also urged hospitals to maximize available beds.
“All Filipinos deserve the best social services… no Filipino should be left behind in health care.”IMT
