Senator Alan Peter Cayetano has called for all national officials — from the President down to lawmakers — to resign and hold snap elections, saying it’s the only way to restore public trust amid widespread corruption scandals.
“If we are really serious about restoring trust, then let’s go all in. Let everyone resign — from the President down to the last congressman — and let’s hold snap elections,” Cayetano said in a statement posted on his official social media pages.
The senator from Taguig said the public’s faith in government has been deeply eroded and that accountability must go beyond promises. He also described his proposal as both symbolic and practical — a “national reset button” to show that leadership is about stewardship, not self-preservation.
“Radical honesty means we don’t pretend the system is fine when everyone can see it’s broken. If we truly serve the people, then we should be willing to sacrifice our posts for the sake of rebuilding their trust,” according to him.
Cayetano’s call follows public outrage over alleged corruption in infrastructure projects and misuse of public funds. Political analysts called his move “unprecedented,” noting that while resignation calls are common, blanket resignations by all officials — including himself — are rare.
Malacañang has not yet responded, but some administration allies dismissed it as political theater, while others said it reflects growing internal frustration.
“We can’t rebuild trust with the same people who broke it. The Filipino people deserve a clean slate, and that starts with us stepping aside,” the Minority Leader said.IMT
