President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has appointed lawyer Charlito Mendoza as the new Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) Commissioner, replacing Romeo Lumagui Jr.

Mendoza, whose appointment was signed on November 12, previously served as Finance Undersecretary overseeing the Revenue Operations Group and was once Customs district collector in Cebu.

A topnotcher in the 2004 Bar Exams, Mendoza earned his law degree from San Beda University and a geodetic engineering degree from the University of the Philippines. He is also a licensed geodetic engineer.

Lumagui, a tax lawyer, had led the BIR since November 2022.IMT
