The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) will present to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. the guidelines for the cash-based Bagong Pilipinas Merit Scholarship Program, which aims to support students from low- to middle-income families.

CHED Chairperson Shirley Agrupis said the program has a P634 million budget to cover 20,000 scholarship slots nationwide.

The merit-based scholarship will encourage enrollment in government priority programs in both state and private universities.

Scholars in state universities and colleges (SUCs) in Metro Manila may receive P25,000 per semester plus a P4,000 book and connectivity allowance, while those in private universities in NCR can get up to P208,000 in annual support.

Slot allocation will be done per region, selecting the top five senior high school graduates based on general weighted average.

“Mayroon na po silang pag-asa na matupad ang kanilang mga ambisyon at makatulong sa pagbuo ng Bagong Pilipinas,” said Agrupis.IMT
