Senator Francis “Chiz” Escudero praised President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. for pursuing evidence-based investigations into alleged anomalies in the flood control budget, which have already led to corruption and malversation charges filed before the Sandiganbayan.
During DPWH budget deliberations, Escudero lauded the administration for “following the evidence” despite political sensitivities, noting that Secretary Vince Dizon confirmed the probe is guided solely by facts.
The Ombudsman has filed cases against former Rep. Zaldy Co, ex-DPWH officials Wilfredo Bernardo, Henry Alcantara, Brice Hernandez, and Sunwest Corporation directors.
The Independent Commission for Infrastructure has also submitted documents on the possible liability of former Speaker Martin Romualdez.
Escudero commended Marcos Jr. for allowing the investigation to proceed even if it involves his cousin, saying this shows commitment to accountability.
He urged the public to remain vigilant against corruption but to base judgment on facts, not speculation or diversionary narratives.IMT
