Senate President Francis “Chiz” Escudero warned contractors linked to questionable flood control projects to attend the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee hearing on September 1, saying failure to comply with subpoenas could lead to arrest.
Escudero confirmed he signed all subpoenas requested by committee chair Sen. Rodante Marcoleta.
“Kinakailangan bigyang linaw nila ang bagay na ito at kung hindi nila susundin ang subpoena ng Senado, ang susunod na doon ay arrest warrant na hindi ako mag-aatubili na pirmahan,” he said.
The probe seeks to uncover anomalies in multibillion-peso flood control projects allegedly funded but left unfinished. Escudero also wants to resolve conflicts of interest in public works, citing cases where relatives of officials serve as contractors.
To address this, he filed Senate Bill 783, which would bar public officials and their relatives up to the fourth degree from entering into government contracts, aiming to close avenues of corruption involving public funds.IMT
