Iloilo City Councilor Miguel Treñas has issued a strong call for transparency and accountability in the city’s flood control projects, warning that any irregularities will face zero tolerance.

His statement came after President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. personally inspected the flood mitigation works in the city and confirmed Mayor Raisa Treñas’ earlier remarks about defects and delays in the ongoing construction.

“If there are indeed anomalies, we will not tolerate them,” Treñas declared. He called for absolute transparency, full disclosure of all project details, and a swift, impartial investigation to determine the extent of any wrongdoing.

Treñas stressed that public funds—entrusted to the government by taxpayers—are meant to safeguard lives and property, not to create new hazards or sow fear among communities.

“We demand accountability without compromise. Every official, contractor, or individual found guilty, regardless of rank or position, must face the full force of the law,” he said.

The councilor reminded that these projects are funded by the “hard-earned money” of the people, making it the government’s duty to protect their trust.

“Public funds are sacred, and any betrayal of that trust is a betrayal to the Ilonggos,” he said.

The flood control projects have come under scrutiny after reports of substandard work and slow progress, prompting both national and local leaders to push for a thorough review.IMT
