The heat index  – the temperature as felt by the human body – in Dumangas, Iloilo reached 44 degrees Celsius (°C) on Friday, April 10, according to PAGASA.

This falls under the weather bureau’s “danger” category (42°C to 51°C), which poses a risk of heat-related illnesses such as heat exhaustion and heat stroke.

Dumangas’ heat index is expected remain under the “danger” category om Saturday, April 11. It is forecast by PAGASA to reach 43°C.

People in the area are advised to “limit prolonged exposure to the sun, stay hydrated and avoid strenuous outdoor activities, especially during peak heat hours.”

Last April 4, the heat index in Dumangas reached 46°C. Based on records from PAGASA, it was the highest recorded in the country so far this year.

The warm and dry season —  colloquially dubbed “summer”  — in the country started on March 23. It is expected to peak this month through the first half of May.IMT
