A memorandum of agreement (MOA) was signed on Monday, May 5, to further boost the tourism industry of Iloilo City.
The deal, forged by the city government and the Iloilo Tourism Foundation Inc., mainly focuses on updating the tourism development plan of the city and revising its tourism code.
The city government was represented by Mayor Jerry Treñas and Maria Lea Victoria Lara, director of the Iloilo City Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibition (MICE) Center.
The foundation, on the other hand, was repsented by its president and vice president, Joseph Del Rosario and Sandra Gomez, respectively.
Lara said the city’s strategies will be aligned with the National Tourism and Development Plan (NTDP), which aims to “transform the Philippine tourism industry into a tourism powerhouse in Asia.”
According to her, they are eyeing the updates to the local development plan to be completed within the year. This will be followed by the revision of the “outdated” tourism code.IMT
