The Iloilo Provincial Health Office (IPHO) recorded a significant drop in the number of dengue cases this year.
From January 1 to December 6, 2025, IPHO logged 5,721 dengue cases, lower by 51 percent compared to more than 11 thousand registered in the same period last year.
The total number of deaths due to the mosquito-borne disease also went down this year to 21 from 35 in 2024.
IPHO attributed the decline in this year’s cases to the provincial government’s aggressive drive against dengue and the public’s cooperation.
Dengue, which mainly affects children, is transmitted through the bite of an Aedes mosquito, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).
Its symptoms include sudden onset of fever for two to seven days and at least two of the following: headache, body weakness, joint and muscle pains, pain behind the eyes, loss of appetite, vomiting, diarrhea and skin rashes.IMT
