Marking the beginning of preparations for the 2026 Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association (WVRAA) Meet, the Department of Education (DepEd) officially convened the first Sports Board Meeting at the City of Passi Arena early this month.
Led by DepEd-6, the meeting was in collaboration with the Schools Division of Passi City and in partnership with the local government unit (LGU) of Passi City.
Carmela Dimamay, Sangguniang Panlalawigan member of Antique, and Ronald So, Sports Consultant of the Province of Capiz were present at the meeting.
Schools division superintendents, assistant schools division superintendents, division sports officers, tournament directors, and representatives from different provincial and city governments also attended he meeting, which discussed critical components to ensure the smooth and safe execution of the 2026 WVRAA Meet.
Among the key agenda items were the Creation of Western Visayas Regional Sports Board, the Adoption of the Eight Competing Teams in the Conduct of 2026 WVRAA Meet, and the request for the LGUs to adopt the Cash Incentives Scheme for the Winners in the 2026 Palarong Pambansa (Gold – 30,000 / Silver – 10,000 / Bronze – 5,000).
DepEd-6 OIC-Regional Director Cristito A. Eco is hopeful that after the engagement, the key agreements will benefit the Champion athletes of the Region as well as ensure the successful conduct of the 2026 WVRAA, ultimately leading to a better standing in the 2026 Palarong Pambansa.
Another proposal discussed during the meeting was the establishment of mobile kitchen and collapsible tents for the Kitchen/Mess Committee to be utilized during the 2026 WVRAA Meet. This was relayed to the representatives of the LGUs for appropriate consideration of their respective local chief executives.
The First Sports Board Meeting concluded with a mutual commitment of all stakeholders towards upholding excellence, inclusivity, and collaboration in organizing and conducting the 2026 WVRAA Meet.IMT Sports
