The Department of Education (DepEd) in Western Visayas has vowed to take immediate action should there be credible reports of the alleged sale of teaching positions in public schools.
In a statement, DepEd-6 Regional Information Officer Hernani Escullar Jr. said so far, they have not monitored the emergence of the so-called “pay-for-position” scheme in the region.
The agency, he stressed, upholds a fair, transparent, and merit-based hiring process.
“We have public affairs hotlines and will take necessary action once we receive any credible information,” Escullar said.
The statement comes amid mounting calls from teachers’ groups for the education department to investigate reports of plantilla positions being sold to applicants in exchange for cash.
DepEd-6 Officer-in-Charge Regional Director Cristito Eco urged the public to report any knowledge of corrupt practices or irregularities, assuring that the regional office remains vigilant and responsive.
“The Regional Office strongly supports the Central Office’s condemnation—in the strongest terms—of all forms of corruption,” he said.
The public may report concerns via the DepEd-6 hotline at (033) 337-0149 (local 1000) or by email at region6@deped.gov.ph.
DepEd-6 has been designated by the Central Office as an official complaints center to ensure easier and more direct access to grievance channels for the public.IMT
