Iloilo First District Rep. Janette Garin believes this year’s State of the Nation Address (SONA) should be simple and free from the usual red carpet fashion show, especially with so many Filipinos still struggling after recent typhoons.

In an online interview, Garin emphasized that what truly matters is focusing on serving the people.

“Sa dami ng sakuna dapat talagang magkaroon ng shift ng priorities, not a total shift but a partial shift na kung saan ang ating austerity measures should be in place para mas malaki ‘yung pondo na mapupunta sa pangangailangan ng bawat pamilyang Pilipino,” the Ilonggo lawmaker said.

She added, “Dapat simple lang sa SONA, hindi na marangya, hindi parang fashion show because at the end of the day ang pinakaimportante kasi is serbisyo sa taumbayan.”

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. is set to deliver his fourth SONA on Monday, July 28, before a joint session of the 20th Congress at the Batasan Pambansa in Quezon City.IMT
