All critical government systems remain secure and fully operational despite attempts to deface some government websites during the weekend’s anti-corruption rallies, the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) assured Monday, Sept. 22.
Secretary Henry Aguda said 19 government websites were defaced—four belonging to national agencies and the rest to local government units—but no data theft or service disruption occurred.
He stressed that the incidents were “inconsequential,” noting the affected sites were only a small fraction of the nearly 60,000 government platforms nationwide.
Aguda also confirmed no cyberattacks from foreign or “nation-state actors” were recorded.
To counter threats, the DICT fully activated Oplan Cyberdome, a whole-of-nation cybersecurity strategy involving law enforcement, telcos, social media platforms, cyber communities, and the private sector.
“Ligtas at maayos ang lahat ng critical government systems,” said Aguda, adding the government showed it can uphold free expression while safeguarding peace and security.IMT
