“Walang Pilipinong mai-scam ngayong Pasko.”
The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) has teamed up with the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP), banks, and law enforcement agencies to safeguard Filipinos from online scams this holiday season under “Oplan Paskong Sigurado.”
DICT Secretary Henry Aguda said the program follows President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to ensure a scam-free Christmas. “We’re working with BSP, with the banks, with the law enforcers matiwasay po dapat ang Pasko natin. So tuloy-tuloy lang po kayong mag-e-commerce, e-transaction,” he said.
Aguda also clarified that no data breach occurred involving e-wallet services, calling recent reports “fake news.” The National Privacy Commission confirmed there was no security issue.
Authorities have long warned that online scams tend to spike during Christmas due to increased shopping and holiday generosity.IMT
