The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) has rolled out Oplan Paskong Sigurado to protect Filipinos from online scams this Christmas season.
DICT Secretary Henry Aguda said the agency is working with the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, banks, and law enforcement to ensure a scam-free holiday, as ordered by President Marcos.
Aguda clarified that there is no data breach involving e-wallet services, citing verification by the National Privacy Commission. He dismissed circulating reports as recycled fake news.
“And sinabi naman ng website mismo, it’s unverified. So out of abundance of prudence and caution, NPC thought of checking it out and lumabas naman po wala pong problema,” he added.
Authorities earlier warned that online scams typically spike during the holidays due to increased online shopping and digital transactions.IMT
