Illegal drugs seized in operations are now swiftly destroyed under President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s administration, ending the practice of “recycling” or reselling confiscated narcotics, officials said.
“Ngayon po may sistema na within so many days may destruction kaagad. Wala na pong recycling ng drugs ngayon sa Pilipinas,” said Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla on Wednesday, following discussions on the President’s fourth State of the Nation Address (SONA).
PDEA Director General Isagani Nerez explained that drugs seized without arrests can now be destroyed with PDEA certification, in coordination with the PNP and NBI, without waiting for a court order, as previously required.
In his SONA, Marcos Jr. reported over P83 billion worth of illegal drugs confiscated in just three years, nearly matching the total haul of the previous six-year administration.
Remulla credited the achievement to the President’s strong directive to dismantle major drug sources and ensure immediate destruction of seized substances.IMT
