The Department of Justice (DOJ) has revealed that a powerful group, with money capable of influencing even the judiciary, may be behind the disappearance of several “sabungeros” (cockfight enthusiasts).

Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla warned, “Tandaan nyo ambigat ng kalaban dito, ang pera nyan nakakapasok even sa judiciary. And that’s one thing that we might have to talk to the Chief Justice about, kasi mabigat ang pera ng e-sabong, hindi ito basta-basta kalaban.”

He declined to name suspects but said the group includes about 20 individuals, including government and police officials, operating the billion-peso e-sabong industry like a corporate entity.

Remulla assured the government is fully committed to building a strong case against those involved.

The DOJ is also coordinating with the Armed Forces, Navy, Coast Guard, and foreign partners to search Taal Lake, where the missing sabungeros’ bodies were allegedly dumped. Technical diving and remote vehicles are being deployed, with help requested from Japan for expertise.IMT
