The Iloilo–Capiz–Aklan Expressway (ICAEx) project will proceed to its next phase following the release of additional funding from the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).
The 210-kilometer expressway is planned as a four-lane, controlled-access highway linking Iloilo, Capiz, and Aklan.
The project aims to offer a faster and safer alternative to existing national roads.
Currently, the trip from Iloilo to Ivisan, Capiz, covers nearly 100 kilometers and takes about two hours.
The route from Ivisan to Kalibo, Aklan spans 67 kilometers and takes approximately 90 minutes.
DPWH officials said the expressway will include elevated sections, viaducts, tunnels, and a long-span bridge.
These features are designed to help ease congestion in populated areas and ensure passability during floods and severe weather.
In Capiz, the proposed route will traverse Dumarao, Cuartero, Dao, Jamindan, Sigma, Ivisan, Sapian, and Roxas City.
In Iloilo, the main entry point is planned in Barangay M.V. Hechanova, Leganes, near the approach of the proposed Panay–Guimaras Bridge under the Panay–Guimaras–Negros Island Bridges Project.
The DPWH said the ICAEx is expected to help decongest national highways, improve the movement of goods and emergency services, and strengthen regional logistics.
The project is also seen to support tourism and new investments by improving access to key destinations in Panay.IMT
