The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) will impose the strictest penalties on fixers who demand money from people seeking aid, Secretary Rex Gatchalian warned Wednesday, Sept. 3.
“Kung may natatanggap kami na mga ganyang report, our field offices will investigate, verify and then we will file the appropriate charges, said Gatchalian, stressing that fixers’ services are both illegal and unnecessary.
The secretary urged the public to approach DSWD offices directly for assistance and cautioned against fake news targeting social pensioners, saying the agency is stepping up its information campaign.
He also encouraged citizens to follow DSWD’s verified social media accounts as their only official source of updates.
Gatchalian added that DSWD is working with law enforcement to go after scammers and disinformation peddlers exploiting government aid programs.IMT
