Dueñas, Iloilo Vice Mayor Aimee Paz Lamasan died while being treated in a hospital after she accidentally shot herself inside their home in Puerto Real de Iloilo Subdivision, La Paz, Iloilo City.
The provincial official, who suffered a gunshot wound on the right side of her abdomen, died on New Year’s Eve, Dec. 31, according to her family.
“It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Honorable Aimee Paz Lamasan, a dedicated public servant of the Municipality of Dueñas,” the family said in a statement on Thursday, Jan. 1.
“Hon. Lamasan demonstrated unwavering commitment to public service and the well-being of Dueñasanon. She served with integrity and compassion for public service.
“Her leadership with heart and unwavering commitment to the welfare of Dueñasanon left a meaningful impact on the community. We hope that her legacy will continue to guide and inspire future generations.”
Based on initial investigation, Lamasan was about to put her 9mm pistol into her bag when the gun went off and hit her at their dining area. She was supposed to travel back to Dueñas.
The vice mayor was rushed to St. Paul’s Hospital in the city by her live-in partner, Lord Byron of the Land Transportation Office (LTO-Central Office), her lone companion when the incident occurred.
According to Police Colonel Kim Legada, the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) head, said the incident, which took place around 7 a.m., was reported after Lamasan was taken to the hospital.
Torrecarion has been subjected to a paraffin test.
In a report by One Western Visayas, ICPO spokesperson Police Major Shella Sangrines said: “As of now, accidental firing ang isa sa mga pangunahing tinututukan ng pulisya.”
“But as we are saying na nagpapatuloy pa ang follow-up natin, so in case na merong mga ebidensya na mag-surface na otherwise mag-consider tayo ng ibang anggulo, patuloy pa naman ito dahil patuloy pa ang pag-iimbestiga natin,” she further said.IMT
