Former Iloilo City mayor Jerry Treñas on Monday, March 16, confirmed that he has been battling pancreatic cancer.

The confirmation was made by 69-year-old Treñas in an exclusive interview on RMN Iloilo’s Straight to the Point program.

Treñas said he is currently undergoing chemotherapy, a treatment that uses drugs to destroy cancer cells.

According to the former mayor, his latest positron emission tomography (PET) Scan showed positive response to the treatment.

“[Sa] ulihi ko nga PET scan, nalipay gid to mga doctor ko. Kabay pa nga magsige-sige lang. This means responsive siya [cancer]  sa chemotherapy,” said Treñas.

“Sige lang aton pangamuyo nga makuha ini. Nagapasalamat gid ako sa tanan nga nagpangamuyo sa aton. Bal-an mo while nagapabulong ka daku gid man ang epekto sang prayers,” he added.

Pancreatic cancer is “a type of cancer that begins as a growth of cells in the pancreas, which lies behind the lower part of the stomach.IMT
