Malacañang said the government’s probe into alleged irregularities in flood control projects is far from over, stressing that the detention of contractor couple Sarah and Pacifico Discaya over the Christmas period is only an early phase of a wider accountability drive.
Presidential Communications Office Acting Secretary Dave Gomez said the Marcos administration will continue to pursue all individuals involved in anomalous infrastructure projects, noting that the investigation has been ongoing for just over four months.
Gomez compared the case to the Janet Lim-Napoles pork barrel scam, which took nearly a year before convictions were secured, adding that more people are likely to be jailed in the coming year.
He said the Discayas’ alleged unexplained wealth is far larger than in past corruption cases.
Sarah Discaya was arrested on December 18 over a P96 million ghost flood control project in Davao Occidental and is detained at the Lapu-Lapu City Jail, while her husband Pacifico Discaya is being held at the Senate after being cited in contempt by the Blue Ribbon Committee for inconsistent testimony.IMT
