Iloilo First District Representative Janette Garin believes that the impeachment trial will be the “best opportunity” for Vice President Sara Duterte to defend herself from accusations.
“It’s actually the best opportunity for the Vice President to defend herself,” said Garin, who a serves as House Deputy Majority Leader.
“Kasi sa totoo lang, doon sa impeachment trial, kapag naipakita niya sa taong bayan na wala naman talagang basihan ‘yung reklamo sa kanya, then it will be a very good vindication for all these allegations,” she explained.
Garin was among the 215 lawmakers who voted to impeach Duterte for “betrayal of public trust, culpable violation of the Constitution, and graft and corruption.”
The Senate is set to convene as an impeachment court on June 3 to issue the summons and other relevant orders.
To convict Duterte, remove her from public office, and ban her from seeking any public post, a two-thirds vote in the 24-member Senate is needed.IMT
