Senator Win Gatchalian is proposing a shorter, specialization-focused college education through the Three-Year College Education (3CE) Act, one of his top education priorities for the 20th Congress.
“Noong nagdagdag tayo ng dalawang taon sa high school, ipinangako natin sa ating mga kababayan na iikli ang panahong kailangang ilaan sa kolehiyo. Panahon na upang tuparin natin ang pangakong ito,” said Gatchalian.
The bill empowers the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) to allow degree programs to be completed in three years, provided they meet industry needs, international standards, and best practices.
Under the proposal, all General Education (GE) subjects would be completed in senior high school, allowing college students to focus on their field of specialization and have more time for internships.
Gatchalian cited findings from the Second Congressional Commission on Education, which showed that Philippine college programs are too focused on GE courses and lack sufficient internship experience.IMT
