Senator Sherwin Gatchalian welcomed the signing of Republic Act No. 12288, or the Career Progression System for Public School Teachers and School Leaders Act, which opens more opportunities for professional growth in the education sector.
Gatchalian, who sponsored the law, said it institutionalizes a career system to support the development and advancement of teachers and school leaders.
The law directs the Department of Budget and Management to create new positions — Teacher IV to VII, Master Teacher V and VI, and School Principal V.
It also requires the Department of Education to craft clear promotion guidelines, ensuring advancement is merit-based, non-hierarchical, and aligned with professional standards.IMT
