Senator Sherwin Gatchalian is considering filing a measure to regulate the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in the country, warning of the potential damage it can cause if used maliciously.
He said AI-generated videos and photos should come with accountability and proper disclosure, noting how hard it is to detect fakes as technology rapidly improves.
Gatchalian warned that AI misuse could fuel disinformation, deepen social divides, and erode public trust.
“This is very dangerous especially now that anyone can be an AI artist. We need to take a look at this technology seriously moving forward,” according to him.
He added that while the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center has been active in taking down deepfake clips, strong legislation is still needed to properly regulate AI use in the Philippines.IMT
