Senator Sherwin Gatchalian is pushing for the passage of Senate Bill No. (SBN) 2493, which seeks to revise the 58-year-old Magna Carta for Public School Teachers (Republic Act No. 4670).

SBN 2493 aims to improve teachers’ welfare by institutionalizing benefits such as calamity leave, educational allowances, and longevity pay. It also proposes better salary standards, protection from out-of-pocket expenses, and equal pay and benefits for probationary and entry-level teachers.

The measure prohibits non-teaching assignments and reduces required classroom hours from six to four per day.

“Nakikiisa tayo sa panawagan ng mga guro para sa mas maayos na mga benepisyo at pagtaguyod sa kanilang kapakanan,” said Gatchalian.

“Napapanahon na upang amyendahan ang Magna Carta upang gawin itong mas akma sa kasalukuyang panahon,” the chairman of the Senate Committee on Basic Education also said.IMT
