Senator Bong Go, chairperson of the Senate Committee on Health, urged Filipinos to stay vigilant but calm amid reports of rising COVID-19 cases in parts of Southeast Asia. This comes as the Philippines continues to report a sharp decline in local cases.

According to the Department of Health (DOH), there is no immediate threat within the country, and no cause for alarm. The DOH is actively coordinating with international partners, including ASEAN, to monitor the regional situation.

DOH data shows an 87% drop in local COVID-19 cases and deaths this year, with just 1,774 cases reported as of April, down from 14,074 in 2024. The fatality rate stands at 1.13%. Weekly case counts also continue to fall, with only 65 new cases from April 6 to 19.

Despite the improved numbers, Go reminded the public to maintain basic health habits, especially in public and healthcare settings.

“Marami na tayong lessons learned mula sa nangyari noong pandemya. Nalampasan man natin ito, hindi rin tayo pwedeng maging kampante,” the senator said, urging continued mask use in hospitals, handwashing, and prioritizing health.IMT
